windows - What is "%AppData%"? - Super User
3 As other answers have mentioned, AppData is a hidden Windows folder typically used by programs to store data and settings. While this is true, it's not the folder's only use. While traditionally most Windows programs install to Program Files, some will install to %AppData% instead.

How to play '*.data' files from security camera SD card?
The app works, but the way to save video is very tedious (you can't just export data you have to press a 'record' button while you are watching, meaning you would need to sit there manually 'recording' all the saved footage hour by hour). I'm also worried that I won't have access to the footage if I don't have access to the app. Hence why I want a backup of the SD card that I can use on my PC.

The AppData\Local folder in Windows Vista is the same as the Documents and Settings\<username>\Local Settings\Application Data folder in Windows XP. Windows uses the Roaming folder for application specific data, such as custom dictionaries, which are machine independent and should roam with the user profile.

How to view daily (network) data usage in Windows 10?
This works well! You can paste the data in Excel to sum up daily Internet usage because it does it by hour. In fact, the website mentions "The network usage data is collected every hour by Windows operating systems". So Windows collects the data, and NirSoft NetworkUsageView simply displays them. You can find SRUDB.dat in C:\Windows\System32\sru\SRUDB.dat.

How to find where an application is storing data? - Super User
All modern OS have a default location where programs are supposed to store data that is created on behalf of a user. On Windows, it's under %APPDATA% for files internal to the application (i.e. files the user should not access directly, such as internal preferences), and %USERPROFILE% for the user's data.
