Jazz Chisholm, Home Run Derby and Yankees
Digest more
Home Run Derby takes place Monday, July 14 to kick off the MLB All-Star break. The format for this year's competition remains the same as it did in 2024, where the top four hitters from the opening round will advance to the knockout bracket where there will be head-to-head matchups.
Chisholm entered Monday's event hoping to become the first Yankee since Aaron Judge to take home the Home Run Derby crown—Judge clobbered 47 home runs en route to his win at Marlins Park in 2017. Chisholm now leaves Atlanta with a sour taste in his mouth, and the MLB social team isn't exactly giving him a confidence boost.
Geron Sands, Chisholm's stepfather, will be throwing pitches to the star in the Home Run Derby. Sands has played a role in Chisholm's development as a player, even throwing to him in past (and smaller) home run events.

Cal Raleigh, the league's home-run leader heading into the All-Star break, headlines the list of competitors in the 2025 Home Run Derby.
Raleigh will become the second-ever player to switch hit in the Derby ( Adley Rutschman in 2023, lost 2nd round), plus no catcher has ever won the derby. This is year 39 of the event, so odds are against Raleigh despite him being the favorite.
