The upshot of the Heat’s summer-league victory Monday night against the Celtics was that meaningful boxes were checked off.

LAS VEGAS — Jordan Walsh called his ejection Monday against the Heat a “rookie mistake.” His coach, Joe Mazzulla, watching from high in the bleachers of Cox Pavilion with his family, texted his young swingman and said he “loved” the fire.

As an NBA rookie, guard Pelle Larsson helped the Miami Heat win the Las Vegas Summer League championship, played in 55 regular-season NBA games for the Heat and then played in each of the Heat’s four playoff games. But Larsson entered this offseason with more to prove and plenty to improve on.

Luka Garza was brought in from the Minnesota Timberwolves. The team traded for rookie center Amari Williams on draft night. The second-round pick recently played at the University of Kentucky.
