The somewhat contradictory answer was that golf does fulfill Scheffler, along with his family, but that if the game ever affected his role as a husband and father he'd quit on the spot. Family matters the most to him, so he ends up asking himself the same question at tournament after tournament:

Scottie Scheffler might be the No. 1 professional golfer in the world, but he admitted there’s a lot more to life than racking up tournament victories. Scheffler, 29, gave a candid, lengthy response when asked about his state of mind heading into this week’s 153rd Open Championship at Royal Portrush.

It’s a job that he loves, but a job nonetheless, and his family and faith are what are important. But towards the end of his pre-championship press conference he was asked about “the most crushing loss” he had ever experienced.

For Tiger Woods, golf was his life. It defined him, drove him. Perhaps Scottie Scheffler’s opposite attitude is what allows him to carry on so successfully and seamlessly.
