Strong thunderstorms with torrential rainfall developed over portions of southwest and central Iowa early Sunday morning. Flash Flood Warning were issued for central portions of the state where the heaviest rain fell. Flash Flooding was reported around the Winterset area with the Iowa DOT reporting Highway 92 was briefly flooded.
Local heavy rainfall may reach 2 inches, with possible thunderstorms reaching Boston in the late afternoon, forecasters said.
The incident shut down all of the main lanes on the eastbound freeway at Mercury, according to the DOT. The state agency's Houston district posted about the crash on X at 8:58 a.m. Traffic at 9:30 a.m. was backed up past the interchange with the East Loop.
The Des Moines metro area averaged 2-3 inches of rainfall after midnight on Sunday, according to the NWS. Louisville Metro Police Officers responded to calls of a shooting on North 38th Street at 11 a.m. Sunday morning. When officers arrived on scene, they found a 31-year-old man with a gunshot wound in his leg. He was transported to University of Louisville Hospital by EMS where the injuries are deemed non-fatal.
