A 4-month-old, 3.0-kg, female New Zealand White rabbit was presented to a staff veterinarian in our academic animal facility on a Monday morning with presumed traumatic injuries to her right hind paw.
The rabbit is a popular animal model for human biomechanical research involving surgery on the hind limb. Mortality is higher in rabbits when undergoing general anesthesia compared to dogs and cats.
