There is a five-way tie for the lead after the first round of the 153rd Open Championship with Jacob Skov Olesen, Haotong Li, Matt Fitzpatrick, Christiaan Bezuidenhout and Harris English shooting 4-under 67 Thursday at Royal Portrush. World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler (68) is one back with home favorite Rory McIlroy (70) three off the pace.
The Open Championship at Royal Portrush is the first golfing event to use a Spidercam. The R&A installed a four-point wire-cam system costing £300,000 ahead of the tournament, something that has not been done before in the sport.
Almost 280,000 golf spectators are attending the event at Royal Portrush throughout the week. After practice days from Sunday onwards, Thursday was the first day of tournament action and it lived up to expectations for many traders in the County Londonderry town.
