The United States has launched an investigation into “unfair” trading practices by Brazil, escalating President Donald Trump’s spat with the world’s 10th-largest economy over issues including the criminal case against its former President Jair Bolsonaro.

The United States has begun investigating Brazil’s trade practices and “anti-corruption interference,” after the president’s criticisms of Brazil’s treatment of Jair Bolsonaro, a Trump ally.

The U.S. investigation into Brazil’s trade practices will include looking into whether illegal deforestation gives Brazilian farmers and ranchers an unfair advantage over their U.S. counterparts by opening up land
