Canada forward Olivia Smith has become the most expensive player in women’s soccer history at a cost of one million pounds ($1.34 million) after Arsenal signed her from Liverpool.

Confidentiality was the modus operandi before Smith’s record-breaking £1million ($1.34m) transfer from Liverpool to Arsenal became official on Thursday.

Olivia Smith has played just 1,578 minutes of top-flight football, but that was enough for Arsenal. In just one season at Liverpool, the 20-year-old convinced the Gunners she was good enough for them to make her the first £1million player in the history of women’s football.
