DETROIT -- The Detroit Tigers have reached the All-Star break with baseball’s best record, a commanding division lead, and a roster that has exceeded even optimistic projections. And yet it’s hard to ignore that ugly final week, which exposed cracks in their bullpen and raised questions about their readiness for a playoff run.

Skubal is one of four MLB players nominated in the " Best MLB Player " category at the 2025 ESPY Awards, ESPN's annual awards show. The Detroit Tigers leaned into selecting late-rising prospects as part of their haul in Day 1 of the 2025 MLB Draft on Sunday. The Tigers began the night picking shortstop Jordan Yost with the No. 24 pick, followed by catcher Michael Oliveto 34th overall, righty Malachi Witherspoon in the second round and lefty Ben Jacobs in the third round.
