The thunderstorm risk for New Jersey is much lower Thursday, but some isolated severe storms are possible this afternoon and evening.

Severe storms hammered parts of the tri-state area Monday afternoon into the late evening hours, flooding City subways, prompting dozens of water rescues and triggering a state of emergency in hard-hit parts of New Jersey.

A Flood Watch has been issued for a significant portion of New Jersey. The watch is in effect from Wednesday afternoon through late Wednesday night, as forecasters warn of the potential for flooding due to excessive rainfall.

The intense thunderstorm may have looked and sounded like a tornado, but that's not what happened, according to forecasters who examined the damage.

With a hot and juicy atmosphere, torrential downpours and flash flooding are back in play for at least part of New Jersey late Wednesday.

Thursday: A slight chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly between 4 and 5 p.m. Mostly cloudy, then gradually becoming sunny, with a high near 93. Heat index values as high as 102. West wind 5 to 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%.

The National Weather Service issued a heat advisory that includes Berks, Bucks, Chester, Delaware, Lehigh and Montgomery counties, as well as Mercer County in New Jersey.

The National Weather Service has issued flash flood watches for parts of 17 New Jersey counties on Monday to start a stormy week.
