At our Hartland Marsh Preserve, a family of Sandhill Cranes has been raising a young colt all summer long. What started as a fuzzy, awkward chick is now nearly as tall as mom and dad - and now getting ready for its very first migration. Sandhill Crane families stay together through the fall, with the parents guiding their young on the long journey south. Many Wisconsin cranes will head to staging areas along the Wisconsin and Mississippi Rivers before flying further to wintering grounds in state
