The Medieval Church

By the early 1970s, Ypsilanti was planning to reinvent itself. A new master plan proposed razing Depot Town for light industry, turning Riverside Park into a parking lot, and replacing North Huron Street’s historic buildings with a civic center and high-rise. By mid-decade, a county highway was even planned through Depot Town. Nathalie Edmunds recalled the fight to save these areas as “one continual battle,” while Jack Harris called the restored Huron Street homes “living architectural history.”
